Hand forged wrought Iron hammers

Small Bar Smithy is proud to now offer hand forged wrought iron hammers in limited quantity releases.

The bodies of these hammers have been forged from wrought iron wagon tires which were sourced from across Western Canada. What I love about using this iron is the fact that it has stood the test of time and still has a story to tell. It was made over 100 years ago when factories were full of workers grinding out an honest day’s work in the foundries and industrial forges. This iron was formed and forged into tires which found their way onto the wheels of all kinds of wagons which made their way half way across a continent.

These tires carried families looking to breaking new ground in the West. They carried hopes and dreams, livestock and grain. Just like the blacksmiths and factory workers who forged this wrought, these settlers worked hard with their hands day in and out to carve out a life for themselves. I think in this day and age it’s hard for most to relate to such a feat. These were hard, determined and resilient people who were willing put in the work to get by.

Over 100 years later, often discarded in shelter belts or junk piles, these iron tires are still willing to work to earn their keep. To pay respect to the history worn into this iron and the life it has lived to this point, every hammer is entirely hand forged. It’s a throw back to when things were done by hand and done right. Forged in a traditional brick coke forge and shaped by a striker and sledge hammer, these hammers are made with sweat and soul.

These hammers designed and forged to be put to work, there are no free rides for these tools. Just like in it’s previous life, this wrought iron is ready to do the heavy lifting  and forge new opportunities in a new home.

All of my wrought iron hammers have been faced with 1045 steel which has been normalized, heat treated and tempered. Out of the box these tools are ready to put to use in your smithy. All pricing is in Canadian dollars (this is a bargain for those of you south of the border) and flat rate shipping has been calculated based off of the average price of shipping to the respective regions.
