Small Bar Smithy was established in 2016 on the Small family farm near Craven Saskatchewan Canada. What originally began as a hobby quickly transformed into a passion for blacksmithing. In an age where knowledge is a click away, the first year of this adventure was spent researching techniques, tooling and working at the anvil to develop the basic skills of a blacksmith. Once established, the ability to work with other incredible smiths poured fuel on the fire and opened many new ideas and doors. Their knowledge and willingness to share ideas and inspiration fostered a stronger desire to keep forging ahead. As the skill set grew, so too did the shop with the addition of a variety of tools and the physical expansion of the smithy. Countless hours have been invested learning this amazing craft with the understanding that one will never truly master all aspects of forging steel.

Presently Small Bar Smithy is a fully functional traditional blacksmith shop. The focus of our Smithy is traditional iron work with a specific interest in decorative pieces, traditional joinery, and functional blacksmithing related tools. Our goal is to work with individuals to bring their ideas to life through fire and force. With every hammer blow we continue to expand and hone our skill set to ensure the best quality pieces leave our shop.

We believe that the desire to create is universal which is why Small Bar Smithy places an emphasis on making this amazing craft accessible to everyone. Through open houses and various demonstrations, our priority is to expose as many people as we can to this trade. We also offer a range of classes tailored to the students’ needs and aspirations. From basic introductory classes, to intermediate and advanced classes, our facility allows for individuals to explore and understand the fundamentals of traditional blacksmithing.
